Who is the Design Committee?

Design means getting historic downtown Plainfield into tip top physical shape.  The Design Committee’s activities also include instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district, enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate design management systems, and long term planning.
 
The Design Committee is Actively Participating in both the Streetscape Committee and River Walk Program!
A member from the Board has been an active participant for the past year and will continue to serve as a liaison for downtown business and building owners.  Want your voice to be heard but can’t make it to one of the weekly Friday, 8AM meetings?  Contact the MainStreet Plainfield office and arrange for a meeting with one of our design committee members.  We can take your questions or concerns to the next meeting and report back to you.

Village of Plainfield Façade Improvement Program
The Village of Plainfield Façade Improvement Program is designed to promote the continued use and maintenance of commercial buildings in the downtown area by helping property owners and tenants rehabilitate and restore eligible structures. To be eligible for a Façade Improvement Program reimbursement grant, a building must be used in whole or in part for commercial purposes and must be located within the target area. Property owners or business tenants who will make at lease $1,000 in qualifying improvements are eligible to receive a matching grant. The grant reimburses up to 50% of the total project cost, not to exceed $150,000 per project. Grants are available to make certain improvements to a building’s façade. Interested parties should schedule a pre-application meeting with a Village of Plainfield staff member (815) 439-2824. Lincoln Highway Commemorative Gazebo
MainStreet Plainfield is proud to participate in an Illinois wide program designed to erect a Lincoln Highway Commemorative Gazebo in 20 communities all along the Lincoln Highway. Due to be completed by the end of summer 2008, the gazebo will be located on the south side of Lockport Street between the railroad tracks and Village Hall. Funding for the gazebo will be provided by the Village of Plainfield,

MainStreet Plainfield, and the Plainfield Historical Society. MainStreet will be calling on all of the community for material donations, sponsorships, and building volunteers. Check for updates in upcoming newsletters!
